Haidong Gumdo Sparring Program

 

This project is the creation of a Haidong Gumdo sparring Program. Haidong Gumdo is a traditional Korean swordsmanship martial art. It is taught through forms, drills, and other exercises. Sparring is only used inside individual schools. My Master, Master Hughes, has decided that it is time for our school, the Springville Self Defense and Leadership Academy, to start its own sparring program and has asked that I create this program.

The goal of this program is to learn to apply the traditional skills and techniques and to learn new skills, such as, timing and strategy.

The benefits of this program will be three hold.

First, it will allow me to gain a greater depth of understanding and the practical applications of Haidong Gumdo.

Second, through this program other practitioners at my school can also increase their understanding and the practical application of this art.

Finally, are skills and the experience that I will gain from creating and teaching this program. This will help me to be able to take over our Haidong Gumdo program when my Master retires, or to start my own program in a different area if life requires that I move too far out of the area.
